New Tecumseth Fire Rescue wants you to “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety” this Fire Prevention Week.
In partnership with the Town of New Tecumseth, fire fighters will host three events throughout the municipality on Saturday, October 9 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the following locations:
Station #1 Alliston Canadian Tire Parking lot
Station #2 Beeton Foodland parking lot
Station #3 Tottenham Foodland parking lot and Vince’s Market parking lot
“We are going to have some trucks on display and booths and tents set up with educational materials and handouts for the kids,” A.J. Lunn, Fire Prevention Officer, New Tecumseth Fire Rescue told The Times. “This is an exciting opportunity for us to get back into the public to educate and save lives through fire safety.”
Each October, New Tecumseth Fire & Rescue services participates in Fire Prevention Week, a province-wide campaign aimed to increase public awareness about the importance of fire prevention.
This year’s campaign, “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety!” works to educate everyone about the different sounds the smoke and carbon monoxide alarms make. Knowing what to do when an alarm sounds will keep you and your family safe. When an alarm makes noises – a beeping sound or a chirping sound – you must take action.
Fire Rescue is encouraging families to learn the sounds of fire safety by testing smoke and CO alarms, and by posting photos to social media using the hashtag #GetLoud. The theme also puts the focus on educating children and adults about smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms, their necessity, and how the sounds they make help save lives.
