Flato Developments Inc. recently joined Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation board members to present them with the first installment of their generous $50,000 pledge towards the Transforming Stevenson Campaign.
The Transforming Stevenson Campaign is a multi-year $8 million campaign, and is the hospital’s first step to raising the funds needed to introduce new innovative technologies and critical equipment that is vital to the success of the future redeveloped hospital.
Flato Developments Inc. is a newcomer to the community, with housing developments planned in New Tecumseth and surrounding area. President of Flato, Shakir Rehmatullah, believes in supporting communities where they build, and he has personally become very involved in the lives of the residents that he builds for. It wasn’t long until he saw the real need to have a strong local hospital, motivating him to invest in Stevenson Memorial Hospital and play a pivotal role in helping the hospital through the Transforming Stevenson Campaign.
The campaign has three major areas of investment; including the implementation of SHINE – One Patient, One Record (Shared Health Information Network Exchange), annual critical equipment needs, and redevelopment planning costs.
“It gives me a great feeling in my heart to support the Stevenson Memorial Hospital. I have seen it first-hand that everyone from nurses to the board of directors and CEO, have so much passion in what they do. The hospital has truly touched my heart. I’m glad that we can support the community by contributing to the work the hospital does every day; saving lives and bringing new life into the world. The community is growing and I’m glad Stevenson Memorial Hospital is finally able to grow as well,” said Rehmatullah.
“Flato Developments Inc. has become one of the dedicated champions of the Steven Memorial Hospital Foundation, and we are extremely grateful to have them join our family of supporters. It is exciting to see the passion that this community has for the hospital. Flato recognizes this enthusiasm and the importance of supporting local health care,” remarked Tanya Wall, executive director, Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation.
The original and current hospital building was built for a capacity of 10,000 patients per year, with an Emergency Department designed to accommodate 7,000 patients a year, and two operating rooms. From 2015-2016, the Emergency Department provided care and treatment to over 36,000 patients, operating at over five times its original capacity. The population is growing rapidly, and the community needs health care facilities that can accommodate this growth. Stevenson Memorial Hospital’s ability to respond to the demands is one of Ontario’s greatest health care department success stories. With the help from companies like Flato Developments Inc. Stevenson will be able to continue providing high quality, safe, and innovative patient care that meets the needs of our growing community.
