Four teams remain in the North Dufferin Baseball League’s 2023 playoffs.

The Barrie Baycats were eliminated in the first round when they lost their best-of-three series to the Innisfil Cardinals. The final game was played on July 26 and ended with a 6-5 Cardinals win.

In the other first-round series, the Orangeville Bengals knocked out the Mansfield Cubs in a series that went three games.

The final game of that series took place on Tuesday, July 25, in Orangeville, with the Bengals coming out on top 6-4.

For the playoffs this season, the top two teams got a bye going into the playoffs, with the bottom team not getting a playoff berth.

This resulted in the four teams playing it off in an attempt to get into the second round.

In the second round of playoffs, Orangeville will be up against the Creemore Padres. The Padres finished the regular in second place with a 10-7-1 record. They scored 144 runs in the season for an average of eight runs scored per game.

Orangeville finished in the number three spot in the regular season with a 9-9 record.

In the other second-round playoff series, the Innisfil Cardinals will be up against the Orillia Royals.

The Royals are the team to be this year after finishing the regular season in first place with a 16-2 record. Over the course of the season, they averaged almost ten runs per game, meaning this team can really hit and run the bases.

These series are scheduled to move fast, with all five games, if necessary, scheduled to be played within a six-day time frame, wrapping up with final games on August 4.

The winners of the series will meet for the 2023 NDBL Junior championship and the Anderson Cup.

The Creemore Padres are the defending champions having won the cup in 2022.
