The Simcoe County District School Board offers French Immersion programs at select schools in Simcoe County.
The programs start at the Grade 1 level. The goal of the French Immersion program is to enable students to communicate in French with a high level of proficiency, enabling them to function with ease in both English and French.
Entry into the French Immersion program will be determined though a digitally randomized lottery system. A link to access the Grade 1 on-line application form will be available staring at 9:00 a.mn on Thursday, December 1, to Friday, December 15.
Enrolment into the program in Grade 1 is limited to a maximum of 40 students per designated French Immersion site. While every effort is made to accommodate all applications, available space and staffing will determine how many students can be registered.
Parents or guardians can contact their school in advance if they do not have internet access at home or require assistance accessing the on-line application.
Transporation is available to students enrolled in French Immersion programs within their designated French site where the student resides outside the walk zone for that school. Centralized community bus stops will be established to provide access for students to attend the specialized program.
Information sessions for families who are considering entry into Grade 1 for the 2023 – 2024 school year will take place in-person in November at the following school, dates, and times, in New Tecumseth. All sessions will commence at 6:00 p.m.
The local information session is being held at Ernest Cumberland Elementary School (575 Eighth Avenue, Alliston) on Monday, Nov. 21.
