Grade 11 and 12 students to be suspended if immunization records aren’t updated

Under Ontario’s Immunization of School Pupils Act, all students must have an up-to-date immunization record, a medical exemption or a signed affidavit on file with the local health unit.

The Simcoe Muskoka and District Health Unit is currently reviewing immunization records for students in Grades 11 and 12. Students who do not provide the required information by Monday, Sept. 21 will be suspended from school starting Tuesday, Sept. 22.

The health unit is working with families to help students avoid suspension and stay in school.

Students can attend an immunization clinic at their high school to have their vaccination records reviewed and updated. A student must bring their yellow immunization card and any proof of vaccinations, including vaccination dates.

At a clinic, a nurse will review the student’s immunization record, ensure the health unit’s records are up to date, and provide any vaccines the student needs.

If you know the student has already received all their vaccines, but the Health Unit records are not up to date, the student should bring the updated yellow immunization card or other vaccination records.

Health Unit staff can update the records and provide information about how to get vaccination records from your health care provider.

For local schools, clinics will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School and Banting Memorial High School on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
