Over 135 enthusiastic supporters gathered to test their spelling knowledge and raise funds in support of the Next Step Literacy Program.
Next Step is an organization dedicated to providing free one-to-one adult tutoring in Alliston.
The event was held at the Club at Bond Head on Saturday, April 13. It proved to be a fun evening filled with laughter, competition, and a shared commitment to education.
Spelling bee teams wore themed costumes that made the night even more entertaining.
Twelve teams battled it out in the spelling bee, showing their spelling prowess.
Among the words thrown at contestants in the play-along round, were ‘ptarmigan,’, ‘tourniquet,’ and ‘lachrymose’, which provided a real challenge.
In addition to the spelling bee, attendees had dinner and the opportunity to participate in a silent auction.
Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, participants, and supporters, the Grate Groan-Up Spelling Bee Fundraiser raised over $20,000 for Next Step.
These funds are invaluable in supporting Next Step’s mission of providing free one-to-one adult tutoring in essential skills such as reading, writing, math, and computer literacy.
