Health unit releases strategic plan for 2023 -2024

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) has released its strategic plan for 2023 – 2024.

The plan focuses on four priority areas – each with specific goals and objectives over the next two years.

Under the heading Programs and Services, the goals are to deliver efficient and effective programs and services by prioritizing quality improvement and reporting processes to monitor organization and program performance and continue to respond to COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses for potential surges. 

Ensure programs and services are guided by principles of health equity by continuing the resumption and renewal of routine public health programs and services.

Enhance and solidify emergency preparedness mechanisms by utilizing emergency response plans based on recommendations from the COVID-19 evaluation and provincial reports.

With regard to people, the goals are to support employees as they participate in the delivery of programs and services, develop and refresh knowledge, skills, and competencies, and enhance organizational culture through employee engagement.

For partnerships, the SMDHU plans to foster and strengthen relationships with communities and partners, continue to renew or enhance relationships with communities and partners, including Indigenous communities, and engage, collaborate, and coordinate with health system partners in relation to mutual priorities.

Looking to the future, the plan is to communicate for sufficient, predictable and timely public health funding by communicating to the province for sufficient, predictable, and timely resources that allow for effective and efficient delivery of the Ontario Public Health Standards.

A plan for organizational change to optimize agency effectiveness includes developing a plan to optimize the organization of programs and services for agency effectiveness in consideration of available resources.

The Strategic Plan was released at the beginning of July.
