Hornet leading Schomberg 2-1 in semi-final series

The Alliston Hornets have pulled out to a 2-1 lead in their best-of-seven North Carruthers Division semi-final series against the Schomberg Cougars.

Both teams had a good season this year, with the Hornets finishing the regular season in second place with Schomberg four points behind in the third spot.

The Hornets eliminated the Penetang Kings in four games during their quarter-final series.

Schomberg dispatched the Huntsville Otters in four games in their quarter-final round.

Game one of the Alliston / Schomberg semi-final got underway on Alliston home ice on Friday, Mar. 24.

The Hornets were trailing 3-2 late in the third period when Andrew Maltby scored to tie it. After a break, the teams returned for overtime, but neither team could score.

The teams returned for a second overtime period.

It was over when Mark Coish hit the back of the Schomberg net at 16:17 into the second OT period for the 4-3 win.

The teams were back at it for game two on Schomberg ice the following day.

Andrew Malty started the scoring in the first period and then followed up with a second goal 43 seconds into the second period.

Connor Hiles and Cole Turcotte both scored in the second. The Cougars managed to get a single goal.

With no scoring in the final period, the Hornets left the ice with a 4-1 win and 2-0 lead in the series.

Game three was back in Alliston on Monday, Mar. 27.

The Hornets took a 2-1 lead in the first period on goals from Andrew Maltby and Adam Hoppe. 

The Hornets had a 3-2 lead at the end of the second period. Jakob Power scored the only Alliston goal in the second period.

The third period was a problem for the Hornets when the Cougars managed to score three unanswered goals to win 5-3. 

Game four of the series is scheduled in Schomberg on Thursday, Mar. 30, with a 7:30 p.m. start.
