The Alliston Hornets bench will look a little different when the team returns to the ice for the 2017 / 18 season – but not in a bad way.
Long-time GM, Rick Bartlett, is stepping aside after spending a lot of years in the position. In his tenure as GM, he has seen the team win nine League championships and two Provincial Schmaltz Cup titles as well as three more trips to the Provincial finals.
Bartlett will remain with the organization as a member of the executive and play an active role in the day to operations of the team.
He will be replaced by Blair Molto.
Molto has been an assistant coach with the Hornets for the past three seasons.
His previous experience includes playing as a goalie for the Cambridge Winterhawks, Waterloo Siskins, Sudbury Cubs, and the Hamilton Steelhawks in the OHL.
Molto’s bench experience also includes acting as assistant coach of the Stayner Siskins, Collingwood Blues, and the Sudbury Cubs.
He is past GM of the Collingwood Blacks of the OPJHL.
Taking on assistant GM duties is Trevor Belrose.
Belrose as been an assistant coach with the Hornets for the past three seasons.
Stepping to up the position of head coach is Travis Chapman.
Chapman will replace head coach Darrin Shannon who has decided to step down for personal reasons.
Shannon will remain with the team as a member of the executive.
Chapman was an assistant coach with the Hornets. He is an Alliston native with an extensive playing career.
Chapman played Junior A hockey in Newmarket before being drafted in the second round to the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL. He played four seasons in the League making stops in Sudbury, Sarnia, and the Sault. He then went on to play four years for St. Mary’s University and one year pro in the Dutch elite League.
He finished his playing career with the Clarenville Caribous winning an Allen Cup.
Hornets management said they will be announcing the positions of assistant coaches for the new season in the future.
