After taking a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period the Alliston squad returned for the second and ran roughshod over the visitors peppering Huntsville goalie Mitchell Jones with 53 shots for the game while allowing only 25 shots against.
“We were on the ball tonight. The team really came out to play, “ said Hornets goalie Mike Masucci. “Everybody was ready to go right from the beginning. We knew we were going to walk into the game and take if from the beginning. The team was 100 per cent ready to go. We’ve been planning since Monday and practicing hard. We were ready for this game.”
The Hornets have a lot of new players on the roster this season and so far the team is impressing fans with their style of play and the talent seen on the ice.
“We have a long way to go, but with the players we have, we have the potential to go the distance this year. We will be a contender. It will be a lot of hard work ahead of us, but we’ll be there.”
The shutout was Masucci’s first of the season.
“The team was working well ahead of me. They made it easy for me to make the saves,” Masucci of getting his first blanked game of the year. “I make the first one, they make the next three. They worked really well with the rebounds. I was really proud of them tonight.”
The Hornets are currently in first place in the North Conference of the PJHL.
The Stayner Siskins are in second place with a 4-1 record so far.
The Hornets will be in Stayner tonight (Oct. 6) to take on the Siskins.
They will return to home ice on Friday, October 14, to host the Schomberg Cougars.
Game time is 7:30 p.m.
