The Alliston Hornets are done for the season after losing 3-0 in game six of their semi-final series with the Port Hope Panthers.
The Hornets went to Port Hope on Saturday (April 16) night in a do-or-die situation after losing to the Panthers on Friday night in Alliston.
That game left the Hornets trailing the series 3-2 and going into game six they had to win to keep the series alive.
Friday night’s game in Alliston saw the Panthers take a lead in the series after taking a three-goal lead in the second period that seemed to knock the wind out of the Hornets sails.
Two final third-period goals closed the gap, but a final empty net Panthers goal sealed the deal for the night and the Port Hope team left the arena a game ahead to return to home ice for game six and a chance to end it.
The Hornets were shut-out in the final game with Port Hope scoring one in the first period then scoring the final two in the third frame.
The Panthers will now go on to the Schmalz Cup championship final and will face the Ayr Centennials in the final round.
Look for a Hornets season wrap up story in the next edition of the New Tecumseth Times.
