The Alliston Hornets have clinched the 2025 North Carruthers Division as the first-place team to end the regular season.
Dominating the division this year, the Alliston squad wrapped up the season with a 40-2 record. Their only losses came on Jan. 10, when they gave up a 5-4 game on a shoot-out to the Muskoka Bears, and in the final game of the season with a shoot-out loss to the Stayner Siskins.
The final game of the regular season had the Hornets hosting the Siskins at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre for an afternoon game on the Family Day holiday on Monday, Feb. 17.
In the final game, the Hornets were leading 1-0 early in the third period with both teams putting up very good defensive play.
Tristen Pitt scored the only Hornets goal of the game at 2:28 into the third period.
The Siskins matched it with a goal at the 12:28 mark.
Neither team could score to break the tie and the game went into three-on-three overtime.
With no scoring in overtime, the game ended with a shoot-out. The Siskins won the game outscoring the Hornets 2-1 over four shots on net to claim the 2-1 win.
“It was a nothing game and we were short guys,” said Hornets coach Jacob Bauchman after the Stayner game. “We sat three of our top guys, our top three scorers. It’s a nothing game so we don’t want any injuries.”
The Hornets had already clinched first place and the outcome of Monday’s game would not impact on the standings.
“We’re feeling good going into Wednesday, (playoffs),” Bauchman said. “We just got to make sure we’re going on all cylinders from the get-go. We won’t take anyone lightly. We play our game and get this series over as soon as possible then we will have more of a break. We can rest and get in some practice.”
In the first round of the playoffs, the Hornets will be up against the Muskoka Bears in a best-of-seven playoff series.
That series got underway on Muskoka home ice on Wednesday, Feb. 19, with results not available at press time.
The series will move to Allison for game two on Friday, Feb. 21.
Game time is 7:30 p.m.
