The Alliston Hornets took it on the chin during their Friday (Dec. 8) night home game against the Stayner Siskins on home ice at the New Tecumseth Recreation Complex.

Stayer arrived in town trailing behind the first-place Hornets by two points, so this was a battle for the top spot.

The Hornets couldn’t score in the first period but gave up a single goal to give the Siskins the early edge.

The second period became a disaster for the Hornets when they gave up three unanswered goals to trail 4-0. That included four powerplay opportunities that the squad couldn’t capitalize on.

Alliston got on the scoreboard at 7:57 into the third period on a goal from Cal Stinson, but that was all they could do for the night.

The Siskins managed to score two more in the third for a 6-1 win.

The loss was a huge disappointment for Hornets fans, who at least expected it to be a close game between the two top teams in the division.

With the latest win, the Siskins are now tied with the Hornets for first place.

The Orillia Terriers are holding on to third place in the division with 33 points and a 16-7 record, including one overtime loss.

The Schomberg Cougars are in fourth place with a 14-6-1 record and 29 points.

Division standings are followed by the Huntsville Otters, Penetang Kings, Caledon Golden Hawks, Innisfil Spartans and the Midland Flyers.

It has been an exciting season in the division this year as the top four teams have been very competitive, with first place changing several times.

The Hornets will have a road game this Friday when they travel up to Penetang to take on the Kings.

They will return to home ice at the NTRC on Friday, Dec. 22, to take on the Caledon Golden Hawks.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.
