The Alliston Hornets went to Orillia on Saturday, Feb. 1, to deliver a message to the Terriers and that message was received when the Alliston team left the ice with a 7-1 win.

The Terriers are the second-place team in the North Carruthers Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League with a 28-5 record, but the Hornets wanted to remind them why the Alliston team is still in the division’s number one spot.

Orillia was first on the scoreboard in the Saturday game scoring at 9:03 into the first period.

That lead evaporated quickly when the Hornets responded with three first-period goals.

The Hornets’ goals came from Mitch Harding, Nick Lamont, and Cole Turcotte.

There was only one second-period goal and that came from Duncan Grube to give the Alliston squad a 4-1 lead with one period remaining.

The Alliston squad kept up the pressure in the final period scoring three unanswered goals to end the night.

The Hornets’ goals came from Jax Bellwood and two from Jaeden French.

After the weekend, the Hornets have a 33-1 record. That includes a shoot-out loss to the Muskoka Bears on Jan. 10.

Hornets forward Jaeden French continues to lead the team in points. French has 35 goals and 53 assists after 33 times on the ice – good for 88 points.

He is only one point behind league leader Jordan Fuller who plays for Orillia.

The Hornets lead the division followed by Orillia.

The Stayner Siskins have been holding third place for most of the season and now have a 27-10 record.

They are followed by the Penetang Kings, Innisfil Spartans, and the Huntsville Otters – all separated by three points.

The Midland Flyers are in seventh place with 16 points.

In the basement, the Muskoka Bears have won only four games all season.

They will return to home ice at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre on Friday, Feb. 7, to host the Muskoka Bears.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.
