The Alliston Hornets won their third game of the season with a 7-2 win over the Caledon Golden Hawks on Friday (Sept. 23) night at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.
It didn’t take long for the Hornets to set the tone of the game taking a 3-1 lead at the end of the first period on goals from Will Ferguson and a pair from Ryan Young.
The second period saw the Allison squad dominate the Golden Hawks for the entire frame, keeping the play in the Caledon end and peppering Hawks goaltender Andrew Ireland with shots.
Over the game the Hornets out-shot the Caledon squad 50-28.
Alliston notched a single goal in the second period when Brandon Washer scored on a power play.
The final period saw the Hornets ahead 5-1 when Stephen Nosad scored early in the frame.
Caledon scored another one at the mid-way mark.
The Hornets finished up with a third goal from Ryan Young for the hat trick and a final marker from Mitch Livingston with 36 seconds left on the clock.
“We had an early 3-1 lead and thought we couldn’t let up after that,” said Hornets forward Ryan Young. “The second and third we let up a little bit, but we’ll take it. We were trying to hem them in, in their own end and put pucks on the net – we ended up with 50 (shots) at the end of the game. That’s what we’re looking for in the game.”
The Hornets have a several new players that have joined the line-up this season, including Young.
“We’re definitely starting to pull together as a unit. It’s still early in the season. I think we’re trying to grow together,” Young said.
The Hornets will be back on home ice this Friday, Sept. 30, when they will host the Huntsville Otters.
The puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
