A third-period goal made all the difference in Friday (Sept. 17) night’s game when the Alliston Hornets hosted the Stayner Siskins at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.
The Siskins were leading 2-0 early in the second period, but the Hornets tied the game with two goals just 34 seconds apart.
The first Allison goal for the night came from Duncan Grube at 12:19 in the period. That was followed by a goal from Tristen Pitt.
Alliston took the lead in the third when Cam Lamont hit the back of the Stayner net at 2:48 into the final frame.
Cole Turcotte netted another goal just under two minutes later to give the Hornets a 4-2 lead.
Stayner scored at 6:01 to close the gap, but the Hornets scored nine seconds later on a goal from Ben Smith to lead 5-3 with 14 minutes on the clock.
The Siskins scored midway in the period, but the Hornets held on for a 5-4 win in their fourth game of the season.
That gives the Hornets a 4-0 record and they are now in second place in the North Carruthers Division of the PJHL.
Orillia is currently in first place in the division. Stayner is in third place followed by the Innisfil Spartans.
The Hornets will return to home ice at the NTRC on Friday, Oct. 4, to host the Orillia Terriers.
Game time is 7:30 p.m.
