Coffee Break® is the primary fundraiser of the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County, which is seeking residents, community groups, and businesses to host their own Coffee Break® this fall. A Coffee Break® can be held at home, at work, or at a public venue.
Hosts can exchange cups of coffee for donations on behalf of the Society, and the donations have a local impact, going to support the over 8,100 individuals in Simcoe County who are living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
Retail stores can also participate in the event by selling coffee cup decals, which can be signed by the customer, for a donation to the society.
Hosts will be supplied with a free Coffee Break® kit that includes marketing materials and coffee for their event.
The Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County is a charitable organization which provides support for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, as well as education, funding for research, and advocacy. The Society greatly appreciates, and relies upon, the generous support of residents, community groups, and businesses to achieve its goals.
“The annual Coffee Break® campaign is a key component of the Alzheimer Society’s fundraising program” said Debbie Islam, CEO of the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County. “The valuable funds raised enable the Alzheimer Society to continue to provide much needed education and support services to the thousands of persons living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias in Simcoe County, as well as their care partners. We encourage you to host a Coffee Break® and make a difference in your community.”
It is estimated that, by 2031, close to one million Canadians will be living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Demand for services is increasing as the number of Canadians affected by dementia climbs.
Participants can host their coffee break anytime during the months of September and October. Events can be as simple or elaborate as desired. Hosts can choose the type of event that they would like to do – some hosts may choose to hold a bake sale, trivia night, fashion show, or corporate challenge, or even combine their Coffee Break® with a pre-existing event.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia. It is a fatal brain disorder that progressively impacts memory, speech and behavior. The disease can start to develop 10 to 20 years before symptoms appear. While age remains the biggest risk factor, it can also occur in people in their 40s and 50s.
Now in its 21st year, Coffee Break is the Alzheimer Society’s largest community-based fundraiser that has raised more than 15 million dollars nationwide and is sponsored by the major retailers Bulk Barn and FreshCo.
