It’s going to be an Alliston/Stayner semi-final

The Alliston Hornets will face the Stayner Siskins in the semi-final round of the North Carruthers Division Provincial Junior Hockey League playoffs.

The Hornets eliminated the Penetang Kings in the quarter-final round in a four-game sweep that wrapped up on Wednesday, March 16 in Penetang.

In Game One of that series, the Hornets squeezed out a 3-2 win on home ice at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre on March 9.

Game Two of the series was another close one with Alliston coming out on top 2-1 in March 11, in Penetang.

The series was back in Alliston for Game Three on March 13. The Hornets left the ice with a 5-1 win to put the pressure on the Kings to win or end their season in game four.

The final game in Penatang resulted in a 5-4 overtime win for the Hornets to claim the series and advance to the semi-final.

The Sisksins were up against the last place Huntsville Otters in their quarter-final series.

Unfortunately, that series did not go the distance.

The Siskins were leading 3-0, when the Otters found out several of their players had COVID.

As a result, the Otters could not complete the final game in time and had to forfeit, giving Stayner the right to advance to the next round.

In the other Division series, the Orillia Terriers who finished second in the regular season, swept the Midland Flyers in four games.

The third place Schomberg Cougars claimed their quarter-final after knocking out the Caledon Golden Hawks in a series that went six games. That series wrapped up on March 18 in Caledon.

The Schomberg Cougars will now face the Orillia Terriers in the other Carruthers Division semi-final.

The Alliston/Stayner series should prove to be a real battle on the ice.

In the regular season, the teams met six times, with both teams coming out on top three times.

The Alliston/Stayner series will get underway in Stayner on Thursday, March 24.

Game Two is slated for Friday, March 25, in Alliston with a 7:30 p.m. start.

Game Three will be in Stayner on Sunday, March 27, at 1:30 p.m.

The series will return to Alliston for Game Four on Monday, March 28, with a 7:30 p.m. start.

If necessary, Game Five will be in Stayner on Thursday, March 31, at 8:00 p.m.

Game Six, is scheduled for Friday, April 1, in Alliston with a 7:30 p.m. start.

Game Seven is slated for Sunday, April 3, in Stayner with a 1:30 p.m. start.
