It didn’t take the Alliston Hornets long to set the tone in Friday night’s game against the Orillia Terriers.
At the end of the first period the Hornets were leading 3-0 after a pair of goals from Drake Board and a single from John Gage late in the frame.
Two more second period goals from Mitch Livingston and Devon Gillham made it a 5-0 game.
The Terriers finally got on the scoreboard in the second period when they scored on a power play.
The final period saw the Terriers score a second goal but the Hornets responded with three more from Stevon Hlusiak, Will Ferguson, and Matt Hamilton to end the game.
By the time the third period rolled around the Orillia squad seemed spent and the Hornets were cycling the puck just to kill off the period and get the game over with.
“I thought we were all over them in the first period,” said Hornets forward Drake Board. “We took a few penalties but other than that I thought we dominated the first period and got a lot of shots and had two go in. In the second we made a couple of mistakes and let in a goal but other than that we played a solid second period. We out-shot them. Penalties hurt us a little bit but other than that I thought we had a solid period.”
By the time the third period rolled around the Terriers were out of steam. The Hornets skated circle around them for most of the frame.
“It’s one of those things were most teams can’t handle our speed and by the third period most of their D are worn down from going back in the corners and getting pucks. It takes a toll on guys bodies for sure,” Board said.

Otters beached

The Hornets were back in action two days later when they hosted the Huntsville Otters.
That game ended with a 10-1 win for Alliston.
The Hornets now have a 26-2-1 record.
The Hornets will be back on home ice on Friday, Dec. 23, when they host the Orillia Terriers at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
