The Kevin Lord Memorial Foundation has given its annual Memorial Award and Scholarship to a deserving New Tecumseth Ball Hockey League (NTBHL) player.

This year’s recipient is William Hopcraft, a U19 player who has completed his Junior year in ball hockey.

The award is given to a player who is going on to post-secondary education and has brought distinction to the sport through outstanding individual athletic achievement. The player also best exemplifies excellence in leadership, character, sportsmanship, and selfless contribution to the NTBHL.

“This is ball hockey championship night for the juniors,” explained Al Lord, Chair of the Kevin Lord Memorial Foundation. “Every year, there is one player who will receive the Kevin Lord Scholarship Award. It’s for a Junior player who is 18 years old. After that, they go on to the men’s League. Every year, we make this presentation for $1,000. The funds are raised through the Kevin Lord Foundation and our golf tournament.”

Recipient Hopcraft has been playing ball hockey for almost his entire life.

“I’ve been playing ball hockey as long as I’ve been playing ice hockey, so since I was around three years old, playing in New Tec all my life,” Hopcraft said. “It’s all about being with your friends in the summer and having a blast.”

He will be attending Georgian College in the fall to study in the Police Foundations program.

Hopcraft said he will continue with ball hockey in the men’s league and hopes to play for Team Canada in the future.
