It’s good news for those that like wine and spirits.
The LCBO is planning to open a second location in Alliston.
During its December 13 meeting, the New Tecumseth Committee of Whole gave the thumbs up on a recommendation to enter a site plan agreement with SmartCentres that will permit the construction of a commercial building at the corner of the Walmart plaza location in Alliston.
The new building is planned to have two units – one of which will be a new LCBO store.
Currently, the LCBO has one store in Alliston located on Young Street in the strip mall.
The Walmart location opened in 2010 with a new store. Since then, a small plaza was built next door with a Dollarama and several other businesses.
An A&W opened as a stand-alone building on the property several years ago.
The new building will generate around $184,000 in development charges.
The site in the east end is rapidly developing the property behind the Tim Horton’s and is scheduled to have apartment buildings, a hotel, and a self-storage facility.
Those projects were approved at Council through zoning changes earlier this year.
