For the second year in a row, New Tecumseth resident Vikram Bhangoo is taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge Canada, riding 500 kilometres throughout August with a goal of raising $5,000 for SickKids Foundation.

Bhangoo is riding in memory of his father, Sukhwinder Malhi, whose strength, courage, and love continue to inspire him every day.

Last year, Bhangoo cycled 300 km in August to raise $2,500. He surpassed his goal by several hundred dollars. This year, he increased the distance and his fundraising goal.

“Last year was an unforgettable experience,” said Bhangoo. “Thanks to the incredible generosity of friends, family, coworkers, local businesses, and members of our community, I raised $2,737 for SickKids. This year, I’m challenging myself to go even further.”

Bhangoo also expressed his sincere appreciation to LIUNA Local 183 for its tremendous support during last year’s campaign

“I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to LIUNA Local 183 for their generous donation and to the chair, the board, and all of my LIUNA 183 brothers and sisters for believing in this cause,” Bhangoo said. “Your support helped make my first year such a success, and I’ll always be grateful.”

Every dollar raised through the Great Cycle Challenge helps the SickKids Foundation fund life-saving research, treatments, and support programs for children battling cancer.

“For me, this ride is about much more than cycling,” Bhangoo said. “It’s about honouring my dad’s memory while giving hope to children and families facing the fight of their lives. Every kilometre I ride is for them.”

As he prepares to ride the 500 km throughout August, Bhangoo hopes the community will once again come together to help him reach his $5,000 fundraising goal.

Community members can support the challenge by donating or sharing the fundraiser with friends and family.

Bhangoo added, “Together, every kilometre and every dollar brings us one step closer to ending kids’ cancer.”
