The Royal Canadian Legion and the Town of New Tecumseth will be cutting the ribbon to officially open the new Veterans Walkway in Alliston.
The walkway is located at the Town’s Administration Centre and leads to the Veterans Memorial Cenotaph behind Alliston Memorial Arena.
This walkway will represent Canada’s veterans as defined by the Legion. A veteran is any person who is serving or who has honourably served in the Canadian Armed Forces, the Commonwealth, or its wartime allies. Regular Members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police or Peace Officers in a Special Duty Area or on a Special Duty Operation, or who have served in the Merchant Navy or Ferry Command during wartime are considered veterans as well.
Veterans from the area, including Base Borden, will be invited to this event along with local dignitaries from municipal, federal, and provincial governments.
Town staff who have worked on this project will also be present.
The unveiling of the new walkway will take place at the Town of New Tecumseth Administration office at 24 Tupper St. West, Alliston on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Form-up will start at 11:45 a.m., with the unveiling at noon.
