Matthews House Hospice (MHH) in Alliston raised more than $335,000 through December and January during its Annual Holiday Giving Campaign.

Despite the postal strike that caused a lot of grief for some organizations that rely on donors, the Matthews House Hospice campaign was a success.

This year, the holiday campaign highlighted the impact that hospice residences make in the lives of residents and their families.

With 10 residential hospice beds, MHH provides residents with compassionate care and support in a comforting home-like environment as they navigate through their journey of a life-limiting terminal illness.

It is because of the commitment of the community that MHH can continue its valuable work.

“Being at Matthews House Hospice gave me the gift of having my mom cared for, allowing me to just spend time with her,” said Michelle, a resident named Loretta’s daughter. “She was spoiled by everyone there; they all knew how to make her specific breakfast which was really the only thing she enjoyed eating and also that Loretta wanted her tea in a china teacup.”

The postal strike delayed the delivery of over 6,500 appeal letters. Traditionally, the letters are the main source of support for the campaign.

In an effort to expand the campaign, the team at Matthews House explored new ways to reach the community. Many of the letters were hand-delivered.

“Thank you to everyone who kindly included Matthews House in their giving plans this holiday season even with the challenges of the postal strike,” said Margaret Bachle, MHH CEO. “We value the dedicated support our community showed in supporting compassionate hospice care.”

Matthews House helps families in South Simcoe including New Tecumseth, Adjala-Tosorontio, Bradford West Gwillimbury, Essa, Innisfil, and surrounding communities.
