It was McHappy Day on Thursday, May 8, and McDonald’s restaurants across the county contributed funds in support of Ronald McDonald House Charities as well as other local charities.

Each McDonald’s restaurant can choose the local charities that they would like to support.

This year, two local McDonald’s locations donated a port of all menu items to both Ronald McDonald House and the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation.

The McDonald’s locations included the two Alliston restaurants on Young Street and at the Walmart store as well as the Angus restaurant location on Mill Street.

Since McHappy Day was first celebrated in 1977, McDonald’s Canada, its franchisees, and guests have contributed over $100 million to Ronald McDonald Houses and local charities.

McHappy Day provides Ronald McDonald House with the funds needed to support houses and family rooms, serving thousands of families each year.

The Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation is grateful to be the recipient of part of the proceeds of this day.

“McKinnon Restaurants recognizes the critical fundraising goals for annual equipment needs and the construction of Steven Memorial Hospital’s new facility in New Tecumseth,” the Foundation said in a statement. “They have chosen Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation as one of the benefactors for this year’s McHappy Day, playing a vital role in supporting these essential fundraising efforts.”

Members from the Foundation joined McDonald’s staff to kick off the event at the Young St. location.
