National Public Works Week is coming up from May 19 – 25, and there will be an opportunity for the public to see the inner workings of Town infrastructure as well as some of the valuable equipment that keeps the Town in shape.
This year’s theme is “Advancing Quality of Life for All.”
The theme highlights the way public works professionals contribute to, and enhance the quality of life in all the communities they serve.
This year there will be a free mulch giveaway during the Brendan Holly Wastewater Treatment Plant tour. If you want mulch for the garden, bring your car or truck and take advantage of this opportunity to use the mulch to get your garden looking good for the warm weather.
There will be public tours of the Wastewater Treatment plant on Thursday, May 23, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. This is an opportunity to see the inner workings of a facility that you may have always wondered about.
Staff will give a guided tour and explain how they treat wastewater before returning it to local waterways.
On Friday, May 24 there will be a Touch-A-Truck event, held at Alliston Memorial Arena.
This is an opportunity to see Town trucks up close. There are several different types of vehicles used by the Town for things like street sweeping, snow removal, road maintenance, and general maintenance.
Town workers will be on-site to explain how each vehicle works.
There will also be giveaways, a food truck, and tree education by Professor Pricklethorn.
During the event, there will be a chance to help Fill a Truck with non-perishable donations to the local food bank.
Kids love the Touch a Truck event and the chance to see some of these big working vehicles up close.
