Dr. Michael Corradini, a veterinarian in New Tecumseth, has received the 2026 Award of Merit from the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA).
The award recognizes a veterinarian who has demonstrated exemplary public service and has made extraordinary contributions to the veterinary profession.
The award was presented at the OVMA Conference and Trade Show in Toronto.
Dr. Corradini founded Simcoe Veterinary Associates, comprising of three clinics, in 1985.
Currently, he operates clinics in Tottenham and Bradford.
He was one of the first veterinarians in Ontario to offer soft tissue ultrasonography for both horses and small animals.
A respected clinician, Dr. Corradini holds multiple certifications in ultrasonography and has made significant contributions to advancing equine veterinary care. He is sought after by both equine and canine athlete owners for diagnosis and treatment of sports-related injuries.
Dr. Corradini developed a love for animals at an early age and moved to a rural property at age 11 where he had a special interest in horses.
“We lived in the city, right downtown, and moved to this farm land, specifically to have a horse,” Dr. Corradini explained. “I’ve always had an interest in and a love of horses.”
This love of horses led him to become involved with local horse racing tracks as a teenager, where he started out as a ‘hot walker’ and later learned more about horses and the horse racing industry.
“This award means a lot to me because it’s awarded by your peers,” Dr. Corradini said. “These are people who know what you do and what you go through, so that is very rewarding to me. I really enjoy what I do.
An enthusiastic volunteer, Dr. Corradini has held numerous leadership roles in the profession.
He is a past president and distinguished life member of the Ontario Association of Equine Practitioners, and he has served on multiple university and association boards. He was the Canadian representative on the board of the American Association of Equine Practitioners.
Dr. Corradini also served as OVMA president and has chaired several committees and task forces.
He has been involved in equine research at the University of Guelph and has worked with the Ontario Horse Racing Industry Association and the Ontario Agricultural Science Research Committee, securing funding for equine research.
Dr. Corradini has mentored and trained many co-op students, veterinary externship students and associated veterinarians, supporting the next generation in the profession.
