The championship series for the 2023 North Dufferin Baseball League Strother Cup will get underway on Sept. 9, with the Bolton Brewers facing the New Lowell Knights in the final best-of-seven series.
This is going to be a reasonable and competitive final series between two strong teams.
The Brewers finished the regular season in first place, losing only two games all year. They eliminated the Lisle Astros in the first round of playoffs in a series that went five games. They outscored the Astros 49 – 14 over those five games.
In the second round, they dispatched the Ivy Rangers in four games, winning three and playing one game to a 6-6 tie.
In their first-round series, the Knights knocked out the Creemore Padres in four games.
New Lowell earned the right to advance to the championship with a second-round win over the Barrie Angels. That series went three games, with all three being a tight contest.
New Lowell finished the regular season in second place with a 17-4-1 record. Barrie was close behind with a third-place finish and 16 wins.
The Brewers and Knights are both strong, highly competitive teams. The Brewers have won the championship seven times since 2009, when they had a stellar five consecutive years as champions from 2009 to 2013. They last won the cup in 2021.
The Knights won the cup in 2015, 2016, and 2019. They are last year’s defending champions.
The NDBL Senior Championship final series will get underway on Sept. 9 in Bolton.
