Nottawasaga OPP charge multiple people in drug investigation

The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police Community Street Crime Unit has arrested and charged multiple people in relation to an ongoing drug investigation.

Members of the Nottawasaga CSCU, with the assistance of Dufferin, Caledon, and Collingwood/Huronia West CSCU, OPP Central Region Tactical Response Unit, Barrie Police Service Tactical Support Unit and Street Crime Unit, and the South Simcoe Police Service Canine Unit, executed numerous search warrants within the New Tecumseth and Barrie on Wednesday, Oct. 18.

These locations included residences and businesses associated with the accused.

As a result of the police investigation, members of the Nottawasaga CSCU have arrested and charged three individuals with various offences.

Chantel Rhoden, 27, of Alliston, has been charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA 5(2) for Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine. She’s also charged under the CDSA 5(2) Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid, and Criminal Code of Canada (CC) 354 (1)(a) Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Kashwayne Daley, 46, of Barrie, has been charged with CDSA 5(2) Possession of a Schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine. They were also charged with CDSA 5(2) Possession of a Schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine and CDSA 5(2) Possession of a Schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking – Khat. CC 91(2) Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon. Other charges include CC 354 (1)(a) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000 – in Canada, Cannabis Act (CA) 9(2) Possession for the purpose of distributing and Tobacco Tax Act S.29(2) Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes.

Alwayne Smart, 40, of Mississauga, has been charged with CDSA 5(2) Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, CDSA 5(2) Possession of a Schedule Substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid and CDSA 5(2) Possession of a Schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking – Khat. Alwayne was also charged with CC354(1)(a) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000.

All three accused were released and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford in November 2023.

As a result of the investigation, police seized a quantity of drugs, including over 60 grams of cocaine, fentanyl, and over 430 grams of Khat. Additionally, several items related to drug trafficking, over 50 cartons of unmarked cigarettes, a conducted energy weapon body armour, and two motor vehicles were seized.

Due to the nature of the investigation and to protect the integrity of the investigation, no other information will released.
