Slow down and drive safely – that’s the message Nottawasaga OPP shared during a Thanksgiving weekend traffic safety campaign targeting dangerous driving behaviours.

During the campaign, officers conducted proactive enforcement initiatives across the detachment area, focusing on speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving, and seatbelt compliance.

As a result of the enforcement effort, officers laid:

• 206 speeding charges

• Seven seatbelt charges

• Two distracted driving charges

• Four impaired driving charges

• Two stunt driving charges

• Four Liquor Licence and Control Act charges

• Three Cannabis Control Act charges

• 32 Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act charges

• One other Criminal Code traffic-related charge

• 138 other Provincial Offences charges

Despite ongoing education and enforcement efforts, officers continue to observe motorists engaging in behaviours that put themselves and others at risk.

Speeding remains the leading enforcement issue, accounting for more than half of all charges laid during the campaign.

Motorists are reminded that making safe and responsible driving choices is essential every time they get behind the wheel.
