If you’re a hiker, you may want to make sure the trails are open before you head out to some areas of the Bruce Trail.
The recent ice storm brought down branches and trees along sections of the trail making it hazardous for hikers.
In response, to make sure the trails are safe to use, the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority (NVCA) has closed sections of the trail to the public. This includes the main Bruce Trail and all associated side trails.
Closed sections are between Lavender and Craigleith. This closure is in addition to closures in several from Dufferin Hi-Land and northwards.
Trail maintenance volunteers are working hard to assess the area and clear debris. They are requesting the public to avoid these areas for their own safety.
The closures may last for a few weeks until volunteer crews can attend to all the damage.
As the trail assessment continues, other parts of the Bruce Trail may also be temporarily closed to hikers.
It is important that hikers adhere to trail closures as conditions are creating a serious trip or fall hazard, and anyone injured on the trails may be in serious trouble while waiting for rescue.
A rescue in such areas also creates a hazardous situation for emergency personnel.
