Several truck drivers learned the hard way about the importance of keeping their vehicles in a safe operating condition after members of the Ontario Provincial Police in partnership with the Ministry of Transportation Barrie Enforcement Office conducted a Commercial Motor Vehicle enforcement blitz on Sept. 20, in the area of County Rd. 90.
The initiative focused on improving road safety through commercial vehicle inspections and enforcement of regulatory compliance.
As a result of the blitz:
• 40 commercial motor vehicle inspections were completed
• 37 provincial offence notices were issued
• 10 commercial motor vehicles were placed out of service due to safety-related defects or violations
Commercial motor vehicle enforcement plays a vital role in ensuring vehicles operating on Ontario’s highways meet required safety standards.
Regular inspections help identify mechanical defects, regulatory violations, and unsafe operating practices before they contribute to collisions.
