Members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have arrested and charged an individual following a series of incidents involving suspicious behaviour at resident properties in Essa Township.

Officers responded to multiple calls for service on May 27, 2026, between 9 p.m. and midnight, after residents reported a suspicious person who was observed attending residences and looking into windows before leaving the area.

Shortly before midnight, police received an additional report that an individual matching the previous description attempted to gain entry to a residence by kicking the door. Entry was not gained.

Officers located the individual later that night. The person was placed under arrest without incident.

As a result of the investigation, Jamie Mulholland, 37, of New Tecumseth, has been charged with:

  • Break and Enter a Dwelling House with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence
  • Two counts of Trespassing at Night
  • Mischief – Destroy or Damage Property
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

The accused was held pending a bail hearing.
