If you are expecting some out-of-town visitors this holiday season and worried about where everyone will park their cars, the Town of New Tecumseth’s over-night parking by-law will not be enforced for a two-week period.
The parking by-law went into effect on November 15, and restricts parking on town streets between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. to allow for snow removal.
Vehicles parked on the street between those hours are subject to a $35 fine. If vehicles are blocking snow removal operations the vehicle could be towed and the owner will be responsible for those costs.
The by-law applies whether snow removal is taking place or not.
For the holiday season, the Town has lifted the by-law between the dates of December 15, 2021, and January 1, 2022.
With the holidays approaching the Town recognizes the fact that many residents will be receiving out-of-town visitors for the season and may need the additional parking available.
While the ban is lifted, residents are encouraged to consider the situation if inclement weather occurs and snow plows and clearing equipment need to be on the streets.
If that happens, vehicle owners are asked to move their vehicle to a more appropriate location to allow maintenance crews to get their job done and plow the streets.
