The stage is set for the North Dufferin Baseball League Senior championship series with the Owen Sound Baysox meeting the Ivy Rangers to decide who will hold the 2024 Strother Cup.
The Rangers have had a Cinderella story this year.
They finished fifth in the regular season with a 14-8-2 record, then went on to eliminate the Creemore Padres in the first round of playoffs.
In the second round of playoffs, the Rangers eliminated the powerhouse first-place Bolton Brewers in a series that went five games and wrapped up on Thursday, Aug. 29, with a 6-5 Ivy win to take the series and advance to the final.
The Brewers’ defeat knocked them out of what would be been their seventh straight championship series. They won the championship in two of those years.
This is the first championship series for the Ivy team since entering the league in 2017.
After finishing second in the regular season, Owen Sound knocked out the Barrie Angels in the first round of playoffs, then went on to eliminate the New Lowell Knights in the second round to secure their place in the championship series.
That series went the full six games after the teams played to a 3-3 tie in game five.
The final game saw the Baysox hammer New Lowell 12-0 to win.
This will be the first appearance of the Owen Sound team in the championship final since joining the league in 2022.
The Strother Cup championship series will get underway on Saturday, Sept. 7, with all games being played on the weekend.
