Alliston’s newest eatery brings a taste of the Middle East to town.
Pita Land Mideast Urban Kitchen held a grand opening on Wednesday, July 5, to officially announce its welcoming guests at its Dunham Drive location at the Walmart plaza.
Pita Land began as a single store in downtown Toronto and has expanded to over 40 locations in Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta.
“Pita Land started in early 2000,” explained Eleanor Reynolds, director of marketing Pita Land. “The owners are from the Middle East and brought their spices with them. The first store was opened on Gerrard St. (Toronto) and since 2003 we’ve been franchising. We have 47 locations right now. We’re so excited to be par of the Alliston community. We serve the best of Middle Eastern food – chicken shwarma, kababs, and all the delights of the Middle East. The food is authentic – it’s fresh, never frozen.”
After achieving success in the GTA, Pita Land started opening locations in other towns and cities around the province.
“Shwarma translates to ‘meat on a spit’,” Ms. Reynolds said of one of the most popular dishes. “We get out chicken and marinate it in our secret special sauce. The shwarma spit is made on site in the morning.”
