There is a lot of history in Tottenham that has shaped the town and helped it evolve over the last two centuries when pioneers started moving into the area and clearing trees to create farms.

Local podcaster, Johan Brandridge, will be hosting a show that discusses some of the interesting stories that helped create the town.

From small businesses that have been staples in the community to local community leaders that have been part of the growth and development of the area, the podcast will feature local residents sharing that information.

The podcast is sponsored by Coldwell Banker Ronan Realty.

The first podcast featured Marc Ronan, owner of Ronan Realty. The Ronan name is well established in the community, with a family heritage of several generations.

Marc agreed that this kind of podcast is excellent for sharing stories about the community.

“This is a great opportunity for local businesses to share and promote,” he said.

The next podcast will be released on Feb. 20, with guest Cael Cohen.

Cael holds many positions in the community in service groups, the Legion and committees.

“Community and history matter to me,” Cael said. “Building community is one of my core values, and local history is one of my passions. Places, spaces, and things in our community can reflect the long heritage of past generations of New Tecumseth. This heritage can be found sometimes in the mundane, such as the names of streets. The details and stories of our local history can help reveal how societal changes impacted the lives of ordinary people. Learning about the origins and histories behind our community can change the way we think about the present and can push us to see our community from different perspectives.”

In this podcast, Jonah and Cael will discuss the Great Fire of Tottenham, which occurred in 1895.

The fire started in a foundry, consumed much of the town, and destroyed 80 buildings.

The podcast is part of a continuing series.

It is available on all streaming platforms.
