Police seek public assistance in homicide investigation

The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police is seeking the public’s assistance to identify a vehicle in an ongoing investigation. 

On Jan. 21, human remains were discovered in the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio. The deceased was identified as William Schernhammer, 24, of New Tecumseth, who was reported missing on Jan. 12.

One individual has been arrested and charged with First Degree Murder.

On January 12, a vehicle was seen on Parsons Rd. and Dufferin St. in the Town of New Tecumseth between 12:20 a.m. and 12:49 am. The vehicle is described as a light-coloured vehicle, possibly a Buick LeSabre model year 2000 to 2005.

The driver and/or occupants of this vehicle may possess information that could assist in the ongoing investigation. The OPP is requesting information about this vehicle and its occupants.

You will not testify in court and your information may lead to a cash reward of up to $2,000. 

The Nottawasaga Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services and Central Region Support Team, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
