The Ontario Provincial Police Nottawasaga detachment Civics hockey team took on the Banting Memorial High School Marauders on the ice at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre for a fun game that raised donations for the Good Shepherd Food Bank.
The game got underway at noon on Wednesday, Apr. 12.
Nineteen students represented the school, while 15 players suited up for the detachment team.
Students at Banting had a buy-out situation where they could miss classes and make the trip to the arena to watch the game. It was a good turnout, and the stands were filled with enthusiastic supporters.
“We [are] doing this in support of the local food bank, the Good Shepherd Food Bank here in Alliston,” explained Katy Viccary, Community Safety Officer with the OPP. “The kids did a buy-out to get out of class or bring a perishable food item. Our Detachment Commander, Steve Ridout is here, he’s leading the team, and we’ve got the school resource officers from Banting Memorial High School, they’re both going to be playing. This is always a fun time.”
The game went to a tie resulting in a shoot-out.
In the end, the Marauders came out on top with a 9-8 win.
