Concession Road Mercantile and Champ Burger are celebrating Pride Month with a fun, family-friendly event in their shared parking lot, at 78 Victoria Street East Alliston (across from Shoppers Drug Mart) this Thursday evening, June 23, from 7–10 p.m.
“We will be hosting special guests Beverly Diamond and Istealya Heart as they perform a Drag Show on stage,” said Concession Road Mercantile co-owner Hope Mortimer. “There will also be food specials, photo booths, giveaways, contests, music and more! This is a free event and everyone is welcome. Should you wish to make a donation we will have a photo booth set up with the option to donate to Egale Canada.”
Hope says the idea to host a Pride event came to her one morning as she was enjoying her morning coffee.
“I was sitting having my coffee at the store, and a customer had enquired about what Alliston was offering for pride month. Other than some stores offering merchandise or showcasing LGBTQ2+ brands like us, I couldn’t tell them,” Hope told The Times. “That morning I rushed upstairs, brainstormed some ideas, called a few close friends and contacted Champ Burger. Of course, Kyle and Sophie were on board, and we ran with it from there!”
Hope says she, and her business partner, her sister Kim McDonald, are encouraging everyone to where their Pride colours and merchandise, but it is not required.
“We will however be hosting a Best Dressed competition at the event, to which the winner will win a prize! You can enter by taking a photo in front of our photo wall and tagging us on social media,” Hope said.
