Procyon Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Centre will be hosting a fundraising gala to help fund its operation over the coming year.

Procyon operates out of a location near Beeton, Ont. and works with sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife to help rehabilitate them so they can be released back into their natural habitat. The centre works with many different types of wildlife that are brought to the centre or picked up by staff.

This includes younger animals that have been orphaned or animals that have been injured by automobiles or other accidents.

They are not a pet rescue and do not accept domesticated animals like dogs and cats.

“We service an area of 50 km from the centre, covering Orangeville and farther west, as well as the northern part of Etobicoke, Toronto, north of Barrie, and the east – Goodwood and Stouffville,” explained Angela Van Breemen, editor of the Procyon Post. “Sadly, more and more wild animals are being displace from their habitat, due to land and road development, placing additional financial pressure on our centre as each year the number of animals we admit increases significantly. Procyon does not receive government funding from any level of government. To keep our centre running, we rely entirely on donations from the public, corporate sponsors, and events such as our upcoming gala.”

The gala will include a silent auction, guest speakers, live music by the band Echo, and a meal provided by Gourmandissimo. The centre is still seeking silent auction items from donors.

The gala will be held at the Best Western Plus in Orangeville on Friday, Dec. 1.

Tickets are on sale for $180 each (includes a $50 tax receipt), but starting Oct. 1, the price will increase to $200 per person.
