The Ontario government is investing $540,800 in Collingwood General and Marine Hospital to support 2,080 MRI operating hours in 2026/27, to help more patients access diagnostic imaging services.
This will more than double the MRI operating capacity supported by the province.
“Timely access to diagnostic imaging is an important part of delivering high-quality health care close to home,” said Brian Saunderson, MPP for Simcoe-Grey. “By more than doubling our investment in MRI services at CGMH, we are helping the hospital provide more scans, reduce wait times and connect more patients to the care they need right here in South Georgian Bay. Thank you to the entire CGMH team for the exceptional care they continue to provide to patients and families across our region.”
Ontario continues to expand access to diagnostic imaging services across the province, helping hospitals increase capacity and connect patients to the care they need sooner.
“As part of our plan to protect Ontario, our government is taking bold and innovative action to strengthen our health care system,” said Sylvia Jones, Ontario’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “Our over $500,000 investment in Collingwood General and Marine Hospital will support thousands of MRI operating hours this year, ensuring patients can access vital diagnostic imaging services, where and when they need it.”
MRI services will also expand in Alliston when the current redevelopment project at Stevenson Memorial Hospital is complete.
The project will include an MRI suite within the Diagnostic Imaging Department. This addition will allow patients to receive advanced imaging services closer to home, eliminating the need to travel outside of the area for important diagnostic procedures.
The new MRI suite at Stevenson will play a vital role in diagnosing and monitoring diseases and injuries, offering detailed images of organs, bones, muscles, blood vessels, and other soft tissues to support treatment planning.
