Public mischief sends armed officers to home in Tottenham

August 17, 2016   ·   0 Comments

On  Sunday (August 14), Nottawasaga OPP received a call of a crime in progress at a residence on Queen Street North, Tottenham. The caller stated they had encountered an armed intruder in their home.
Police responded in force, and following an initial investigation, determined that this was not in fact the case. The Crime Unit of the Nottawasaga  OPP is now investigating this incident and the investigation is ongoing.
This may have been a case of “swatting,” a dangerous and illegal practice of deceiving emergency personnel, causing disruption, wasting the time of emergency services, and diverting attention from real emergencies.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the OPP Crime Unit, at the Nottawasaga Detachment or for those who wish to remain  anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or the Crime Stoppers website at www.crimestopperssdm.com.
