On Thursday, June 23, Concession Road Mercantile and Champ Burger Alliston hosted a special evening in celebration of Pride Month.
The event included special guests Beverly Diamond and Istealya Heart who performed a Drag Show – with three costume changes each – to popular songs.
About 150 people attended, including several family groups, decked out in all the colours of the rainbow.
“The event went off without a hitch!” said Concession Road Mercantile co-owner Hope Mortimer. “My sister (and business partner) Kim McDonald and I, as well as Kyle and Sophie from Champ Burger, were ecstatic to see our Mayor Rick Milne in attendance to support the LGBTQ2+ community and we all had a great time.”
Mortimer told The Times that with the success of the event and the turnout, they plan to make celebrating Pride Month an annual event.
“We are so happy and proud that Concession Road Mercantile and Champ Burger could collaborate and bring this event to Alliston,” said Mortimer. “A special thanks to our queens for their performance. We can’t wait to have them back next year – or maybe even sooner, wink wink. Stay tuned in on our social media for more information.”
