The Rotary Club of Alliston will again be hosting the Twelfth Night Christmas Tree Bonfire at Riverdale Park in Alliston this year.
The last bonfire was held in January 2020, just before the pandemic shut down most community service activities.
This is a fun way for the entire family to come out and enjoy a festive experience while watching a massive bonfire.
The fire is fueled by Christmas trees that have done their service and are being disposed of.
With the success of the Rotary Santa Claus Parade and the Alliston Potato Festival Parade in August, it is obvious that the residents of New Tecumseth want to re-engage with live events.
The last time the bonfire was held, around 500 people attended. The Rotary Club is expecting even more people to turn out at this event.
The Rotary Club of Palgrave chuckwagon will be on site to help serve hot dogs and hot chocolate at the long-ago cost of 50 cents each. This will help to defray expenses like the Town permit and insurance.
The hot dogs are being provided by Country Meat Cuts in Utopia and the hot chocolate is being donated by the Tim Horton’s on Dunham Drive in Alliston. Local farmer, Jane Ann Downey is providing the straw bales for seating and to serve as a safety perimeter.
The New Tecumseth Fire Department will be on hand to light the fire and make sure everything stays under control.
You can contribute by dropping off your Christmas tree at the Riverdale Park parking lot anytime until January 2.
Volunteers will take the trees and create a huge pile over the week. The Rotary Club has also arranged pickup of trees as necessary from the roadside on January 6 – 7.
The event will take place on Saturday, January 7, 2023, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The lighting of the fire will take place at 6:30 p.m.
