The Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation received a generous boost to its “Because of you, can” redevelopment campaign with a donation of $6,382.33 from Ernest Cumberland Elementary School in Alliston.
The school hosted a Play Day & Fundraising Challenge in support of SMHF on June 17.
For a minimum donation of $2, the students were invited to participate in a fund of hospital-themed games and challenges.
Donations were accepted at the school and on-line.
“The students were really motivated to do this,” said Rebecca Munro, Community and Corporate Giving Officer at SMHF. “We are absolutely thrilled that they were able to surpass their fundraising goal and raise so much in support of community healthcare. They have done an outstanding job and have created a great blueprint for other schools to follow suit.”
This the inaugural year for the Challenge and the school hopes it will inspire other schools, agencies, and community groups to do something similar.
“Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation is grateful to have community supporters like Ernest Cumberland,” said Mary Thomas, CEO, SMHF. “Because of their generous gift, these students are helping to transform Stevenson. Increased patient rooms, doubling the size of our Surgical Services Department, and enhancing our Birthing Unit are all examples of just some of the improvements made possible by our community partners. Thank you, Ernest Cumberland, for making these changes possible.”
The “Because of you, we can” campaign is the largest campaign in SMHF’s history, supporting redevelopment of Stevenson Memorial Hospital.
