Hike for Matthews House Hospice takes place on Sunday, May 5, at the Adjala–Tosorontio Municipal Centre.

A leisurely stroll around the track with families and friends, this annual event is a great way to gather together and remember loved ones who have passed away, and ensure the financial future of our local hospice – and end of life care facility that really does care.

Over 500 participants are expected to turn out this year to raise funds that go directly towards the delivery of Matthews House Hospice programs and services.

In 2018, $111,000 was raised through this peer-to-peer, donation-based event. This year’s goal is set at an ambitious $150,000.

“We are always amazed at the community support and the sponsors that get involved to help us offset costs,” said Andrea Roylance, Gifts and Gratitude – Matthews House Hospice. “At this point in time, we would like to thank the following sponsors: Enbridge, Brookfield Residential, McDonald’s, Rock Solid Computer Solutions, Greenwood Ready Mix, Total Sports, The Township of Adjala–Tosorontio, Alliston Water Depot, Kingsmere Retirement Suites and Scotiabank both Alliston and Angus branches.”

On Thursday, March 14, Scotiabank issued a corporate challenge to other local businesses, by kicking-off Hike donations with a generous gift of $3,100.

The funds, raised through the sale of used books at the branch on Victoria Street, ($2 each), is a follow through of support from Scotiabank to the hospice, the recipient of funds from earlier bank sponsored golf tournaments.

“I would like to challenge other businesses in South Simcoe to get involved, register a corporate team and raise funds that go directly to helping other community members,” said James Ball, Branch Manager of Scotiabank Alliston. “We have chosen to support Matthews House once again as the work they are doing in invaluable to the community.”

Registration for the Hike starts at 10 a.m., on Sunday, May 5, with the actual hike kicking off at noon.
