Simcoe County Warden Basil Clarke has proclaimed June as Seniors Month in the County of Simcoe, to celebrate the contributions of older adults across the community.
This year’s theme is ‘Fit, Active, and Healthy Seniors,’ and encourages older adults to remain active within their communities and fully engaged in their lives.
“Older adults are the backbone of our community, as their contributions have helped to shape our region, laying the foundation for a vibrant and exciting future,” said Warden Basil Clarke. “This month we celebrate their lasting impact and encourage them to continue sharing their talents in ways that enrich us all.”
Throughout June, the County’s long-term care and seniors services teams will host a number of activities and events for the residents who call Georgian Village and Manor, Simcoe Village and Manor, Sunset Village and Manor, and Trillium Manor home. The events will include theme nights, concerts, socials and fun-filled outings.
All residents are encouraged to look for opportunities to support and engage with older adults across the community. This could include joining an activity with an older family member or neighbour, volunteering at a long-term care home or seniors services location, and taking part in inter-generational activities.
All of these small activities can help to foster social connections and nurture vibrant communities.
