It is important to make sure your provincial documents are up to date so you are still a valid licensed driver and have the proper medical coverage in case of an emergency.

Since you have to renew only every few years, it’s easy to forget the date is coming up.

You can now register for digital reminders that will send you an e-mail, text message, or phone call either 30 or 60 days in advance of your renewal date for your licence plate, driver’s licence, health card, or Ontario photo card. How you receive your digital reminder is up to you.

You can sign up for the digital reminders if you have a full driver’s licence (class G, M, or GM), a combination licence with one full class (for example, GM2, G1M), a green photo health card, Ontario photo card, and you are 16 years of age or older.

You cannot sign up if you have a jointly owned vehicle, fleet or company-owned vehicle, a novice class driver’s licence, commercial class of driver’s licence (A, B, C, D, E or F), or a vehicle registered with the International Registration Plan.

To sign up, you will need your up-to-date postal code, licence plate number, health card, Ontario photo card, and driver’s licence. If you don’t have a driver’s licence, you can use your vehicle permit.

Once you sign up, reminders will update automatically when you add a new plate or vehicle under your name, if you own multiple vehicles.

Once you are signed up, you will receive an e-mail, text, or phone reminder that your due date is coming up.

The service is free, and you will never be asked for credit card information, date of birth, or banking details.

Mailed renewal notices will still continue for some vehicle owners including individuals aged 70 or over.

For health cards, mailed renewal notices will continue for individuals under 16 years of age, over 70 years of age, and those living in a remote location or isolated community where there are no in-person ServiceOntario locations.

You can sign up for automatic renewal notices by visiting the provincial website at www.ontario.ca/page/serviceontario.
