The Simcoe County Museum is inviting residents to participate in a free virtual lecture series in November in honour of Remembrance Day.
This series will feature expert guest speakers and local historians. The series will examine significant topics about Canadian military history and its lasting impact on modern society.
All lectures will be presented online through Microsoft Teams. No registration or payment is required.
Lectures will be approximately 45 minutes each and include an audience question-and-answer period.
Atrocity on the Atlantic
This lecture takes place Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 2 to 3 p.m. and will be presented by Nate Hendley.
Toronto-based journalist and author Nate Hendley will discuss his book, Atrocity on the Atlantic, which examines the 1918 sinking of the Canadian hospital ship Llandovery Castle by a German submarine during the First World War.
The presentation explores the tragedy that claimed more than 230 lives and its legacy in shaping international war crimes prosecutions.
Teaching with Historical Empathy: Commemorating War and Promoting Peace
On Thursday, Nov. 26, from 4 to 5 p.m., this lecture will be presented by Dr. Sara Karn.
She will explore how educators use historical empathy to teach about war, remembrance, and peace.
